Alright, so today I'm gonna walk you through my little experiment: cherub vs seraphim. I was just kinda curious about the differences and decided to dive in. No big deal, just messing around.
First thing I did, of course, was hit up Google. I mean, where else are you gonna start, right? I was just trying to get a basic understanding of what each one was supposed to be. I saw a bunch of images and descriptions. Cherubs looked kinda like chubby babies with wings, and seraphim seemed way more intense, like fiery, multi-winged beings.
Then I thought, "Okay, cool. But how can I see this difference?" So, I jumped into Midjourney. I figured I'd try to generate some images and see how the AI interpreted them. I started with a simple prompt: "cherub, cute, baby, wings, fluffy."

The results were pretty much what I expected – adorable little winged babies. Some were holding harps, some were just floating around, all very Renaissance-y. Not bad, not bad at all.
Next up, seraphim. I wanted to capture that powerful, otherworldly vibe, so I went with the prompt: "seraphim, multiple wings, fire, divine, powerful." I was hoping for something epic.
And man, Midjourney delivered! I got these incredible images of beings wreathed in flames, with layer upon layer of wings. They looked way more imposing and awe-inspiring than the cherubs. Seriously, they looked like they could vaporize you with a single glance.
But just generating images wasn't enough. I wanted to understand the why. So, I dug a little deeper. I started reading up on the lore and symbolism behind each one. I found out that cherubs were originally guardians, not just cute little babies. They were protectors of sacred spaces.
And seraphim? They were supposed to be the highest-ranking angels, closest to God. Their name literally means "burning ones," and they were said to be so pure and powerful that they were constantly on fire with divine love.

To solidify my understanding, I decided to try and create a little scene in Blender. Nothing fancy, just a simple environment with a cherub and a seraphim interacting. I downloaded some free 3D models (thank you, internet!) and posed them in a way that highlighted their differences. The cherub was kneeling, looking up in awe, while the seraphim stood tall, radiating light.
It wasn't perfect, but it helped me visualize the contrast between the two. The cherub was innocent and sweet, while the seraphim was majestic and almost terrifying in its power.
In the end, it was a fun little project. I went from just being vaguely aware of the terms "cherub" and "seraphim" to having a much deeper understanding of their history, symbolism, and visual representation. Plus, I got some cool images out of it. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon, if you ask me.
- Step 1: Googled the basics.
- Step 2: Generated images with Midjourney.
- Step 3: Researched the lore and symbolism.
- Step 4: Created a simple scene in Blender.
Would I do it again? Totally. I'm already thinking about what other mythical beings I can explore next. Maybe griffins vs. sphinxes? Who knows! The possibilities are endless.
