This weekend I finally made time to see some Cindy Sherman stuff I'd been meaning to check out. Honestly, tracking down where her self-portraits are showing right now took way more effort than I expected. Nobody tells you this stuff outright.
The Hunt for Cindy Sherman Exhibits
First thing I did was grab my phone. Didn't even make coffee first. Just jumped straight into googling "Cindy Sherman exhibits today" and similar junk. Wow, talk about messy results. Tons of expired listings from museums that aren't showing her work anymore, or galleries halfway across the country.
- Museum Websites: Painful navigation. Some places buried their current exhibits deep in layers of menus. Almost gave up on one site.
- Gallery Lists: Found some promising names in New York and London, but half their links were dead ends or showed past shows.
- Art News Sites: Old articles popped up everywhere telling me about stuff that ended months ago. Total time sink.
After like an hour of digging while eating cold toast, I pinned down two real possibilities: one at a big museum in London (if I squinted past the confusing exhibit calendar dates) and another in Manhattan at a smaller gallery.

The Visiting Part
Chose the NYC one because let's be real, trains are easier than flights. Headed downtown last Tuesday. Little place tucked between a bodega and a vintage shop. Almost walked past it.
Inside, felt crowded immediately. Tiny space packed with people staring hard at these slightly creepy photos. Sherman’s just there in every shot, looking like a bunch of different folks – some weird, some almost normal, all dressed up like characters. Honestly? Sometimes you forget it's the same lady behind all these different faces.
Stood around feeling awkward because people seemed so intense about the pictures. Moved from one piece to another, trying to figure out why they hit different. That photo of her looking like a messed-up clown? Kinda stuck with me later. Didn't read all the fancy info cards though. Just wanted to see what she looked like.
Whole trip took maybe an hour, tops. Grabbed an overpriced coffee afterwards thinking about how strange it was seeing her be so many people at once.
Honestly? Worth the hassle finding the place. Just be ready to do some serious internet digging first unless you know someone who keeps track.
